Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum is one of the world’s most famous museums. In a contemporary, recently renovated building on Amsterdam’s Museum Square, it houses the largest collection of Van Gogh’s work. With more than 2.3 million tourists in 2017 alone, every year the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and workshops keep tourists returning.
One of the world’s most renowned paintings-Van Gogh’s Sunflowers-is part of the continuous collection. It also chronicles his brief artistic life’s various stages. From Nuenen and Antwerp’s previously, darker job, to his more modernist-inspired, colorful pieces from Paris and beyond.
There are also restauration and study equipment at the Van Gogh Museum that shine more light on the lives of Van Gogh and offer you insight into how he worked. You can also learn more about the method of restoration as well as the ongoing conservation work.
The museum is also popular with children who are able to attend fun and interactive art workshops at the museum, not only for adults. It’s also open late every Friday, attracting up to 9 pm closing time a younger audience with their DJs and musicians.

What is there to see in Van Gogh Museum
Sunflowers is the popular 1889 still life painting by Van Gogh. This iconic art work was developed while the artist lived in southern France. Created in relation to a sequence of sunflower paintings he had produced a few years before in Paris, this piece was produced to impress his fellow artist Gauguin and his soon-to-be housemate. You can find this world-famous artwork hanging in the Rietveld building of the Van Gogh Museum.

In addition to the job of Van Gogh, the museum also houses the job of other artists in the Kurokawa wing of the Temporary Exhibition room. This has included some significant exhibitions over the years that display masterpieces from some colleagues of Van Gogh. All were on display here Gauguin, Munch, Malevich, Kandinsky and Vallotton.

On Friday evenings, when the opening hours are extended to 9 pm, the Van Gogh Museum really comes to life. The museum draws a younger audience after work who appreciate the after-hours of the museum. With a drink in hand, you can enjoy the collection while the speakers and musicians and performers are filled with space by a DJ.It’s definitely not to be missed if you want to see the museum in a fun new light.
